Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between single punch and rotary tablet press?

Single Punch Tablet Press: Uses one set of upper and lower punches to compress tablets one at a time. The powder is filled into a die, compressed by the punches, and then ejected. This makes it ideal for:

  • Laboratory research and development (R&D)
  • Small batch production (typically 3,000-5,000 tablets/hour)
  • Educational institutions and training
  • Testing new formulations before scaling up

Rotary Tablet Press: Uses multiple punches arranged on a rotating turret. As the turret rotates, the punches move through filling, compression, and ejection zones continuously. This enables:

  • High-volume production (up to 111,600 tablets/hour)
  • Consistent tablet weight and hardness
  • Multi-layer and double-color tablet capability
  • Industrial-scale manufacturing

Summary: Single punch presses are perfect for small quantities and testing, while rotary presses are designed for mass production.

How to choose the right tablet press machine?

Choosing the right tablet press depends on several factors. Here's our recommendation guide:

  • For Labs & R&D (Small Batches): TDP-5 (50KN, 5,000 pcs/h) or TDP-6 (60KN, 3,000 pcs/h) - Compact, easy to operate, perfect for research and trial production.
  • For Medium Production: ZP-10B (9 stations, 18,000 pcs/h) - GMP standard with transparent windows, ideal for pharmaceutical and food production.
  • For Large-Scale Industrial Production: ZPT-420 (25-31 stations, up to 111,600 pcs/h) - Double-pressing, PLC control, automatic lubrication for continuous operation.

Key considerations:

  • Production volume requirement (tablets per hour)
  • Tablet size, shape, and thickness
  • Material properties (flowability, compressibility)
  • Required pressure (KN)
  • Budget and space constraints
  • Regulatory requirements (GMP, CE certification)

What materials can a tablet press compress?

Our tablet presses can handle a wide range of materials across multiple industries:

  • Pharmaceutical: Active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), excipients, binders, and disintegrants for medicine tablets.
  • Food & Nutrition: Powdered ingredients for candy, mints, compressed sugar, calcium tablets, vitamin supplements, and effervescent tablets.
  • Health Supplements: Protein powder tablets, herbal extracts, spirulina, and collagen tablets.
  • Chemical: Detergent tablets, fertilizer tablets, catalyst pellets, and laboratory reagent tablets.
  • Ceramics & Metallurgy: Ceramic powder tablets and metal powder compacts for sintering.

Important: For optimal tablet quality, the material should have:

  • Good flow properties (or use a granulation process)
  • Adequate compressibility
  • Proper moisture content (typically 3-5%)
  • Appropriate particle size distribution

We also provide technical guidance on powder preparation and formulation optimization.

Do you provide customized moulds (punches and dies)?

Yes, we specialize in customized punch and die sets. We can design and manufacture tooling tailored to your specific requirements:

  • Custom Shapes: Round, oval, square, triangular, or any special geometric shape.
  • Custom Sizes: Diameter from 3mm to 50mm, thickness from 1mm to 15mm.
  • Logo & Text Engraving: Company logos, product names, or identification codes engraved on tablet surfaces.
  • Scored Tablets: Single or double scoring lines for easy breaking.
  • Special Coatings: Chrome plating, titanium coating, or other surface treatments for extended tool life.

How to order custom moulds:

  1. Provide your tablet drawing or sample
  2. Specify material (we recommend tool steel or stainless steel)
  3. We design and send 3D drawings for your approval
  4. Manufacturing takes 10-15 days after confirmation
